This blog is not going to be personal. This blog is about the world of politics, law, religion and other social issues as I see fit. I am a 28 year old young professional with a visual disability. I grew up in northern New England and currently live in Northern California. Come fall of this year I will be starting at an as of yet undetermined law school after several years in the working world. I am a liberal by most standards and I do not consider that a bad thing. I have a slant and I'll admit it openly (you know, unlike the Rupert Murdoch "News" Channel). I have no intention of throwing rhetoric up here without supporting my thoughts with facts. As a former debater I will willingly acknowledge the opposing views on issues I discuss.
I am Jewish which means that I am indeed pro-Israel, but not blindly so (pun fully intended). I support a two-state solution with real peace for both sides. That said I also understand that in a process such as that both sides must be rational actors and there is much debate about the rationality of fundamentalist extremists, a topic we are sure to discuss.
I am a supporter of Barack Obama for reasons I will outline in a forthcoming post, but will stand with whomever the party sees fit to nominate in the coming year. I believe in a woman's right to choose though I wish no one had abortions I don't believe it's my right to stand in their way. I believe that there should never be an American who has to decide between paying for heat and paying for needed medication. I believe the term "working poor" should not have cause to exist in this nation. I believe that if two unrelated human beings love one another and want to have that love legally recognized by the state that is their right, I do not believe any religious organization should be forced to accept that marriage however. I believe that people should be free to believe any religion they wish so long as (a) the practices of that faith do not cause harm to others and (b) no faith is allowed to legislate their belief system on the rest of the country. I believe that if a child is admitted to college they should be able to attend regardless of their parents' economic status. Education means hope and needs to be based on merit, not on monetary means. I believe in all of these things and many more but mostly I believe in America, I believe in myself, and I believe in hope.
